Richard Fursland serves concurrently as Chief Executive Officer of BritishAmerican Business and of the British-American Business Council. He was actively involved in the establishment of British American Business in 2001, from the merger of the American Chamber of Commerce (UK) and British American Chamber of Commerce (US), and has served as its Chief Executive ever since. British American Business has grown to become a leading transatlantic business organization, offering a broad portfolio of business services to 700 member companies, including many of the world’s top multinationals. Mr. Fursland was also actively involved in building the British-American Business Council, the largest transatlantic business network, connecting 25 chapters and 2,500 member companies throughout North America and the United Kingdom.
Mr. Fursland has had two previous careers: in marketing communications, including an extensive spell as Executive Vice President and Managing Director for International Business at Grey Advertising/GCI Group in New York, and in the British Diplomatic Service, including postings at the British Embassy in Beijing, British Trade Commission in Hong Kong, UK Mission to the United Nations, and Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London.
He is Vice President of the European-American Chamber of Commerce and a director of the European American Business Council, of the St. George’s Society and of Cecily’s Fund, as well as of British American Business and the BABC. He holds a first-class honours degree from Cambridge University, and held a Henry Fellowship at Harvard University. He received his OBE (Officer of the British Empire) for services to British business from HM Queen Elizabeth in 2006. He joined the Fedcap Board in 2009.
