Fedcap Brings Connect2Careers to a Bronx High School
More than 150 students participated in Fedcap’s third Connect2Careers™ event of 2013 last week at P.U.L.S.E. High School in the Bronx, where they were introduced to more than 20 career paths.
Representatives came from 22 businesses and included Bronx Community College, FDNY, Majora Carter Group, MTV Networks, New York Botanical Garden New York Public Library, New York Yankees and TD Bank.
Connect2Careers has been a trailblazer in connecting youth to the world of work. P.U.L.S.E. High School, a transfer school, provides an accelerated curriculum in order for students to graduate and move onto college or the work force. For many students, this was a rare opportunity to meet directly with professionals and hiring managers from a diverse array of career paths.
The school’s principal, Dr. Carol Wiggins, praised the students, business representatives and Fedcap and requested that Connect2Careers become an annual event.
“This opportunity does not come often,” one student participant said following the event. “I am grateful to have had an opportunity for exposure to such a variety of careers available to me.”
