Fedcap partners with BNY Mellon, Easter Seals to help CNY veterans find employment
Fedcap, in partnership with BNY Mellon and Easter Seals, connected 50 veterans with businesses from a wide variety of sectors on Tuesday in a special Connect2Careers™ event at the Clear Path for Veterans headquarters in Chittenango, NY.
“Unemployment among Post 9/11 veterans remains inexplicably higher than the national rate,” said Christine McMahon, President and CEO of Fedcap. “Veterans are educated, trained, physically fit and equipped with crucial soft skills like problem-solving and leadership. We just need to connect them with willing employers in fields that can really leverage their value.”
Tuesday’s event, made possible with generous support from BNY Mellon, brought veterans together with representatives from 20 professions, educating them about required levels of education and necessary skills. The engagement allowed business representatives to identify potential candidates that could fill current and future openings.
In preparation for the event, Fedcap and Easter Seals collaborated to run weekly Job Readiness seminars with the participating veterans. These sessions focused on assessing individuals skills and interests, and assisted with resume preparation and interviewing skills.
"I regained my self-confidence as a result of work readiness at Clear Path with the Fedcap team," one participant said following the event. "Thank you for de-militarizing my resume."
Participating businesses included BNY Mellon, Syracuse University, Keller Williams Realty, Catholic Charities, Enterprise Holdings and Pinnacle Wireless.
