Washingtonians for Children Reception
Washingtonians for Children, a division of Fedcap, held a reception Tuesday to raise awareness of the many challenges facing DC youth who have spent time in foster care, with the goal of increasing the percentage who graduate from college.
Speakers included Mark O'Donoghue, Fedcap Board Chair; Lorrie Lutz, Fedcap Chief Strategy Officer; Roque Gerald, Director of Washingtonians for Children, right, and Antoine Wood, below, a DC college student who will age out of foster care in July.
Brenda Donald, who succeeded Dr. Gerald as director of the DC Child and Family Services Agency, spoke compellingly of the urgent need to support 120 DC foster youth who are currently in college, to help them beat the statistical odds by staying in school and graduating.
Washingtonians for Children is committed to helping youth who have spent time in foster care go to college, graduate and obtain sustainable employment.
