News from FedcapFedcap Culinary Arts students and their work featured at BCA Gala
We were so proud when more than 300 people at the BCA’s 19th Annual Cultural Awareness Salute gala at Guastavino’s dined on delicious filet mignon prepared by our students!
Seven Fedcap Culinary Arts adult and youth trainees, under the direction of Senior Culinary Arts Instructor Milton Sheppard, prepared and plated the Filet Mignon with Gorgonzola Crumb Mushroom Hash and Spiced Haricots Verts that was served at the April 21 gala. They worked all day alongside students from other programs including The Culinary Institute of America and Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts, and received a standing ovation from the gala guests and a one-year BCA membership.
BCA is a nonprofit that supports a diverse and educated workforce for the hospitality and culinary industries, and its annual gala is a high-profile event celebrating culinary stars of today and tomorrow. This year’s professional honorees included Tim Buma, Director of Culinary Innovations for Restaurant Associates; Ebow Dadzie, Assistant Pastry Chef at New York’s Marriott Marquis Hotel, and Kevin Walters, Managing Director and Owner/Operator of Creole Restaurant Music & Supper Club.
Fedcap trainee David White, 30 (pictured right with BCA President & CEO Alex Askew and BCA Board Chair Howard Stanford), was among 10 students honored with the BCA High Performance Award.
“I am extremely excited to be part of the Fedcap team that has helped prepare your dinner for this wonderful gala,” Mr. White said in accepting his award. “I really do want to be the best of the best.
"I would like to be a professional chef and a role model to others, especially to people with disabilities.
"Thanks to my training at Fedcap, I intend to do great things in the future.”
In attendance to cheer them on were Fedcap’s COO Joe Giannetto and his wife, Diane; Assistant Director of Vocational Rehabilitation Services Eileen Hamilton; Clinical Supervisor Maria DiBiase; Vice President of Communications Barbara Rosen; Communications Specialist Kimberley Kaye, and our guests from ACCES-VR.
Congratulations to Chef Milton and the whole Fedcap Culinary Arts team!
