Washingtonians for Children Receives Grant to Finalize Planning

Fedcap has received a grant from the Freddie Mac Foundation to finalize planning for its Washingtonians for Children program.

Fedcap founded Washingtonians for Children to help DC youth who are in or have spent time in foster care to complete high school or obtain a GED and move into higher education and sustainable employment, working in conjunction with the Child and Family Services Agency and other partners.

Among other things, over the course of six months, the $149,650.00 grant will fund finalization of plans for: location and staffing; creation of a Board of Advisors; design of case-management, tracking and evaluation systems; arrangements with organizations to provide mentoring, educational and literacy supports; focus groups; development of the Get Ready! curriculum and other materials, agreements with universities and colleges to support youth while they are in college and businesses that will provide internships.

“We are honored to receive this support and are moving forward quickly to provide the foster youth of Washington, DC, with the resources they need to succeed,” said Christine McMahon, President and CEO of Fedcap.
